Biography
Ivor Davies’ interests range from performance, the dematerialisation of the art object (from the 1960s to the present), and atmospheric narratives inspired by characters taken from The Mabinogion. He was part of the important Art Action Group which was very active in the 1960s and 70s and which also included the highly regarded Gustav Metsker among others. Ivor is considered to be one of Wales’ most eminent and distinguished artists and is currently acting President of The Royal Cambrian Academy. His work is held in many important public collections including the National Museum of Wales and the Arts Council of England Collection. Recently he was awarded a commission by Westminster Cathedral, London, to design and install a mosaic in celebration of the life of St David. Ivor has a major solo exhibition of works from the 1960s-70s at the National museum of Wales, Cardiff in 2014.
